So What’s Stuck In A Truck All About?
- StuckinaTruck is all about Business Without Bullshit.
- It's about Up Yours and Move On.
- It's about being a Bad Ass.
- Transforming from the old Fat Ass who doesn't really give a damn.
- To a Bad Ass who is lean, mean, and a real machine.
And I think today I want to talk about one of the subsections of Up Yours and Move On.
Up Yours And Move On
- Up Yours and Move On is all about mindset.
- It's all about what you bring by being you.
- Who are you?
- What are the things within your psyche, within your character that when people see your name, they go, “Oh yeah, that's what he stands for.”
- Those personal core values, define who you are and what you do and how you do it.
I was watching The Road I'm On, it's the Garth Brooks story, the country star from the United States.
He is a bit happy-clappy, touchy-feely, but straight as a die, absolutely straight as a die.
The beautiful thing is, you know where he stands and he does everything on a handshake.
He committed to doing three gigs in Dublin when he came back to doing live work and then Croke Park in Dublin said, “Oh, we can do another night. Oh, we can do another night.”
Then the city council refused the license.
80,000 People Had Their Tickets Cancelled But It Wasn’t Garth Brooks Fault
- So there are five lots of 80,000 people with tickets for this gig. And Garth Brooks is saying,
- “Why should you cancel two of them?
- People have bought those tickets in good faith.
- Which two do you want me to cancel?
- The first one and the second one? That's not fair.
- Last two? That's not fair.
- So he canceled all of them.
It was done on an understanding, it was done from here.
He wanted to say yes and do them, but the city council wouldn't give him the license.
Well, they shouldn't have made the tickets available!
Incredible artist, incredible integrity.
Do You Follow Through?
That's what this comes down to. Do you follow through? I don't mean it like that!
- If you commit to doing something, do you see it through to the end?
- Do you see it through until it's finished or until you're at a point where you can't take something much further?
- Are there lines that you won't cross because of your personal values, are the parts of the way you operate absolutely black and white, or do you have gray lines?
Things like that matter as people like doing business with definitive people, people who have integrity.
If you do a deal with someone and you shake their hand, that deal stands.
Do you know what I mean? Well, to me it does, I would never go against that.
You Must Be Clear And Concise On What You Want
If somebody works for me or if I employ someone to do something, even on Fiverr, if they don't bring the goods, it's probably because my brief was too vague.
- I might say “Oh, I want something that looks a bit like that.”
- They come back “Well, like what, how, describe it?”
- I reply “Well I can't, use your brains, inspire yourself.”
It's not a fair brief, and so then they fail to produce what it is that I think I know what I want.
If I haven't described it, how can they produce it?
I'm talking graphics and then you think to yourself, “Well, if I've got to design it, why do I need a graphic artist?”
Because you're not a graphic artist. It's not bloody rocket science Steven.
Do you understand my point?
My Personal Values
- Whether I work under the StuckinaTruck banner.
- Whether I work as Stevegreenhalgh.co.uk.
- Blue Collar Millionaires.
- Steve-greenhalgh.com.
- BCM Marketing
It doesn't matter because they're all iterations of me.
If you think of me, I'm in the center of it, whatever website I build, whatever business I produce will always have my core values running through the trunk.
Whether it's StuckinaTruck or it's any other business that I've developed, or worked on, or done, if people see my name attached, they understand that.
- I won't bullshit them.
- I'm painfully honest.
Both in how I communicate and how I do business for you. Do you understand?
If You Say You Will Do Something Then Do It
I think that's super critical, I think it's so important!
People need to know that if you say you're going to do something, you do it.
They also need to know that if they don't do something that they've said they're going to do, you're dead to me.
I'll forgive you and I'll move on, but I'll struggle to trust you again, once bitten, twice shy. I'm a very trusting, very understanding, very forgiving person but once somebody's let me down, I never rely on them ever again.
That's quite a hard one to live by because you almost hogtie yourself into thinking, “Well, I'd love to go down that route again, but you've let me down once, why should I?
It's having that personal integrity, that you will make sacrifices to maintain those personal values.
What Are Your Personal Values?
What are your personal values? If somebody lies to you, is that a deal-breaker?
For some people, it isn't, they just gauge everything from that baseline.
To me, if you've lied to me once I can't trust you, it doesn't mean I don't like you, but I'm unlikely to do business with you. Does that make sense?
It's one of those hard, difficult ones, but I think it's important.
I think it gives people security in knowing how you're going to be and how you're going to react and how you're going to treat them.
I think that makes a huge difference when people are sitting around a table or sitting through a Zoom call, can they trust who you say you are?
Do you live up to who you say you're going to be and what you're going to do?
It's not difficult to do, it really isn't!
These Are My Deal Breakers
I think my three deal breakers are honesty, attention to detail, and getting on with it
Getting up, not waiting until tomorrow, and getting shit done.
I can't stand people that procrastinate.
The busiest people in the world are procrastinators because they're busy doing something that's not necessary or constructive.
It really is a challenge, if you get on and do what you need to do, I'll work with you forever.
If I ask you to do something like, “Can you have that done for tomorrow?”
You say “Yeah, sure, I'll have it done.” and you haven't. Why say you will?
Or if I ask you a question and you say, “Hmm, I'm not sure. Can I get back to you?”
No, you either know or you don't know, and if you don't know, please tell me and I'll go and find out from some other source.
Don't give me a maybe because in my head when I hear maybe that means no but you just don't want to tell me.
Does that make sense?
I Live By My Deal Breakers
So when somebody asks me something, if I don't know, I'll tell them I don't know.
If I don't want to do something, I'll tell them I don't want to do it.
If I do it if I say yes, consider it done. Because I won't commit to doing something if I can't complete.
Now there may be things outside of my control, but it'd be unlikely that I would fail on a task, don't do it, it doesn't happen.
It's like failing a delivery, sometimes you feel, “God if I've got to pick this truck up and carry it to the delivery point, I will do it”.
Sometimes you feel like you've got to, but within reason, if everything goes according to plan and anything inside my control that I can control, I will achieve.
If it's outside of my control, you can't account for that, you've just got to smile.
Personal Values Matter
Personal values matter. Have you defined yours?
When people see your name, do they understand what that means?
Because in effect your personal values define your brand.
Who you are should be so obvious that it resonates through everything you do.
If people see my name on a piece of paper, they know what that name stands for, and I live by it.
Can be challenging, but that's how reputations are made, by consistently showing up as the person you put out that you are.
Does that make sense? Cool.
Would You Like My Help?
I'm like a catalyst that helps people get from where they are, to where they want to be and your personal values will help you get there.
I'm not adding oxygen to a flame or petrol to a bonfire. I'll really heat it up and get things going for you and help you get there that much quicker.
If anything I've said interests you, if you want to speak to me about helping you, that's great.
